Why Single Dads Are Sexy…

Have you noticed how in books and movies single dads are completely hot? There’s something very sexy about a man who puts his child above everyone — and everything — else. No wonder it’s so easy to fall in love with them. So what’s the recipe for the perfect single father?

1. He’s Grown Up

There’s nothing attractive about a man who runs away from his responsibilities. But the single dads I’m talking about are ALL about their kids. They’re strong, reliable and will never let you down. Often they have very responsible jobs, too – the kind that will find them in a uniform or a sexy suit (or even better, wearing a stetson on the ranch). Either way, they’re mature AND gorgeous, and I LOVE THAT.

2. He’s Ready to Find The Right Woman

The kind of single dads I love to read about aren’t going to be introducing just anybody to their children. They want to make sure whoever comes into their lives is the right kind of woman. The sort who will love their child as much as they do, and understand that the children always come first. It doesn’t always happen right away — in fact most of the fun in reading a single dad romance is seeing him fight against it. But when it does…

3. When He Finds Her, He’s Going to Want to Keep Her

For me the best part of any romance novel featuring a single father is when he finally realises he can’t live without the woman he’s attracted to. Sometimes it happens near the beginning of the story, but often not until the middle or even the end. But when that realisation comes over him the fireworks always start. Because once that single father KNOWS what he wants, he’s not going to stop at anything to get it. And that kind of determination is always hot to read.

Now in real life we might be wondering WHY he’s a single dad. But this isn’t real life, it’s the book life and it’s infinitely better, right? So we know from the start that his single status isn’t a big red flag. It’s a delicious plot device to let the story unfold.

So with all that hawt-ness it’s no wonder I decided to write about a single dad in my latest book, By Virtue Fall. And Ryan Sutherland really is delicious. A travel photographer, he’s crossed the globe with his adorable six-year-old son, Charlie, and now he’s finally ready to stay in one place for a while. He chooses Shaw Haven, the small town he grew up in on the Chesapeake Bay. But then he meets the woman next door — Juliet Shakespeare, a single mother of one and he’s left wondering if he’ll ever want to leave again…

Love blooms when you least expect it . . .

Juliet Shakespeare is done with love. With a growing floristry business and an adorable daughter to raise, life after separating from her husband is complicated enough – the last thing she needs is a man.

But when handsome single father, Ryan Sutherland, arrives in town, everything changes. As much as she tries to distract herself, Juliet can’t help but be drawn to the easy-going Romeo next door and the way he makes her feel.

Photographer Ryan is only back in his hometown for a few months so there’s no point falling for someone he’ll just have to say goodbye to. But he didn’t account for Juliet – the intriguing and beautiful, red-haired woman next door. And in her, he might just have found everything he ever wanted . . .

Monday News

Good morning! (or afternoon, depending on where you are right now!) It’s a beautiful day here in the South East of England — the sun is out, the sky is blue and the children are off school for their Easter Holidays. Which doesn’t mean much here in the Elks house, because they’re still in bed (teenagers). Still, it’s nice to have them home for a change!

Even more exciting, I actually managed to sit outside with a coffee and a book yesterday. Reading in the garden is my favourite thing to do — it really doesn’t get any better than that. We have lots of tree surrounding us, so listening to birdsong while holding my kindle is my happy place. I hope you managed to get some reading done too!

And speaking of books, I’ve got book news times two. Firstly, in case you missed it, I had the UK Cover Reveal for Summer’s Lease last week — the first book in my new Shakespeare Sisters series. Scroll on down for a look at the cover and the blurb — I LOVE IT!

The US/ Canada cover reveal and links will be coming very soon!

Pre-order links are up here: myBook.to/SummersLeaseUK

Wanna know what it’s about? Read on…

Meet the Shakespeare family: four sisters, four stories . . . four ways to find true love

Cesca Shakespeare has hit rock bottom. Six years after the play she wrote bombed at the box office, she’s unable to hold down a job, keep an apartment, and worst of all her family have no idea how far she’s fallen. So when her fairy Godfather offers her the use of his friend’s Italian villa for the summer, she grudgingly agrees to try writing a new play. That’s before she finds out the house belongs to her arch-nemesis, Sam Carlton.

When Hollywood heart-throb Sam Carlton sees his name splashed across a gossip rag, all he wants to do is hide. That’s how he finds himself traveling to Italy, deciding to spend the summer in his family’s empty villa on Lake Como. Except when he arrives it isn’t as empty as he’d hoped.

Over the course of the hot Italian summer, Cesca and Sam have to come to terms with their pasts. What begins as a tentative friendship quickly grows into an intense attraction – and then a scorching fling. But they can’t hide from reality forever . . . as their different worlds collide, Sam and Cesca face a choice: is this just a summer romance, or could their love weather even the coldest winds?

I also have a 99c sale for Broken Chords going on this week. If you haven’t picked it up already, it’s for sale on all venues. Alex and Lara’s story is one of my favourites — telling their story AFTER their happy-ever-after.

☆.•°*°•.☆99c Sale – This Week Only! ☆.•°*°•.☆

A dirty-talking, sexy rockstar meets a smart-mouthed London girl, and sparks fly. But when she falls pregnant with his baby, their lives begin to unravel. What happens when real life clashes with happily-ever-after…

Friday News! – 4 new books to be published from 2017!

big news

Happy Friday everybody! Today I have some wonderful news that I can’t wait to share with you. For the past year I’ve been working on a super secret project, telling the story of four English sisters who are searching for love in the modern world. Featuring a variety of fabulous locations, The Shakespeare Sister Quartet will be published by Piatkus, with the first book being launched in 2017. Here’s what the fabulous people at Piatkus have to say:

Carrie Elks is the bestselling author of the ‪#‎FixYou‬ and the ‪#‎LoveInLondon‬ series – and now she’s joining us with the Shakespeare Sister quartet – launching in Summer 2017.

“If music is the food of love, then books are definitely the appetizers” – the Shakespeare Sisters series tells the stories of four English sisters: Francesca, Juliet, Lucy and Kitty, each book focusing on one sister and their search for love in the modern world.

If you like Samantha Young or Kirsty Moseley you’re going to love Carrie – and the first in the Love in London series is currently FREE! http://amzn.to/2agB5Hr

Welcome Carrie, we can’t wait to work with you!

I’m looking forward to sharing more details over the coming months, including my very favourite part — the cover reveal. And in the meantime I’ll be having a glass (ahem) or two of bubbly tonight. Hope you can all join me!!

Love,

Carrie Pink
