My Favorite Things Giveaway – TM Franklin

Today in the My Favorite Things Giveaway, we hear from T.M. Franklin, YA author of the MORE Trilogy and How to Get Ainsley Bishop to Fall in Love with You!

My Favorite Things TM Franklin

When going through the list of my favorite things about the holidays, I thought of the usual suspects: The decorations, the lights, the heart-wrenching holiday movies . . . carols and wassailing (what is wassailing anyway?) and the coming together of friends and family.

*takes a moment to sigh wistfully*

Then I thought, “Who am I kidding?”

My favorite thing about the holidays are these bad boys right here:

Candied Pecans

Get in My Belly

Crispy, crunchy, sweet and cinnamony goodness…I mean it’s toasted pecans wrapped up in a crunchy sugar shell. HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE IT?

Eating nuts

This may or may not be an actual recording of me eating candied pecans.

You can sprinkle them on a salad (although if you’re eating salad for the holidays, you’re doing it wrong), crumble them over ice cream (Yes, please!) or just munch on them straight out of the jar. Just beware – once you start, there ain’t no stopping… and before long they’ll be….

It's gone

So it’s best to make a double batch! Especially if you’d like to give some of them as gifts!

Veruca Salt

(Or not…)

Want to make them yourself? It’s super-easy. Here’s the recipe I use.

Candied Pecans

1 c. white sugar

1 tsp. ground cinnamon

3/4 tsp. salt

1 egg white

1 Tbsp. water

1 lb. pecan halves

Combine sugar, cinnamon and salt in a bowl and set aside.

Whisk the egg white and water together until frothy. Toss the pecans in the egg white mixture, then dump in the sugar mixture and mix until the pecans are evenly coated.

Spread on a baking sheet and bake at 250 degrees until pecans are evenly browned, about an hour, stirring every 15 minutes.

Repeat as needed. 🙂

If you’re looking for something fun to read while you munch on your leftover pecans (Ha! Like there will be leftovers!) I have a new six-part serial coming out in January – just in time for you to use one of those amazing Amazon gift cards you get for the holidays (or the one you WIN in THIS giveaway!)

The Talisman Chronicles tells the story of a group of ordinary teens, brought together by a mysterious force. They open up an old chest hidden in an attic, and as they find the talismans inside, they’re granted some amazing powers.

Of course, there’s a reason they get those gifts – something’s coming, and it’s something they’ll have to fight.

My Favorite Things Giveaway – Jeanne McDonald

Today in the My Favorite Things Giveaway, we hear from Jeanne McDonald, Contemporary Romance author of Compass and Politically Incorrect!

What is my favorite thing about the holidays? Well, that’s a loaded question! I rattled this thought around in my brain for the longest. Because I love Christmas season in general how was I to pick just one thing from the food, the smells, the lights, the tree, the presents, the romance…and there it was. The thing I most love about the holidays is the Christmas spirit, itself.
There’s something about the holiday season that changes people. Happiness floods the world. People smile more. People love more. Families come together and share their hearts. People allow themselves to open up and care more. The Christmas spirit is simply magical. And who doesn’t need or want a little magic in their lives? I know I certainly do.
As a writer, my mind automatically reverts to stories and how they convey Christmas spirit. There are countless holiday stories that reflect the importance of Christmas spirit. One of my all time favorites, which also happens to be a classic in the realms of literature, is The Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. We all know this story, as it’s been retold a million and one different ways – Ebeneezer Scrooge, a mean ol’ miser, refuses to see his fellow man for anything more than another shilling in his pocket. In an effort to save him from a terrible fate, he is visited by three spirits of Christmas. These guides show him the importance of the season, more importantly the importance of a full and happy life. As I said before, this story has been retold in countless manners, from cartoons to Muppets to theater and film, but my favorite recreation is the 1950’s film starring Alastair Sim. When I read the novel, I always picture him as my Scrooge.
Another great story about understanding and finding oneself in the spirit of Christmas is While You Were Sleeping starring Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman. As a woman with no family, Lucy is reminded every Christmas how alone she is. That is until a freak accident drops her into the lives of Callaghan family. There Lucy finds love and learns what life means to be surrounded by those who adore you. Christmas spirit shows her the life she was always meant to have.
Okay, I know I have gone all kinds of philosophical here, but really, Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without Christmas spirit. So tonight, when you’re sitting with your family or walking through a crowded shopping mall looking for Christmas gifts, stop and think about the joy this season brings. Then you can truly feel the spirit of Christmas.
Now that I’ve got you thinking about Christmas spirit, how about you continue your journey with Compass. No, this isn’t a Christmas novel, though there is a Christmas scene within its page. This is simply a story about finding love and giving it a chance.

My Favorite Things Giveaway – Ayden Morgan

Today in the My Favorite Things Giveaway, we hear from Ayden Morgen, author of the All Falls Down series and the Teplo Trilogy.

In a house with two very rambunctious kittens, my husband and I didn’t get to do a lot of decorating for the holidays this year. We weren’t quite brave enough to risk one of the minions destroying our hard work.
Instead, we opted to focus more on the things we love about the holiday season, like giving, which leads me to my most favorite part of the holiday….

1. Presents!

I am a big fan of finding the perfect gift for the cool kids in my life. I just love seeing their little faces light up with happiness and excitement. Since SS and I don’t have any little ones at home, I’m not ashamed to admit that I spoil my two sisters’ kids on holidays. Picking out their favorite things is so much fun!

2. How the Grinch Stole Christmas

I have adored this story since I was a little girl. Every year, I make a point to watch the original movie (not that hot mess with Jim Carrey) as often as it’s on television. I love everything about the book, and the movie is equally as wonderful.

3. Tootsie Roll Banks

It sounds like such a little, silly thing, but every year for as long as I can remember, I’ve gotten a Tootsie Roll bank at some point during the holiday season. I look forward to it so much! I’m a Tootsie Roll addict, and it’s just not Christmas unless I get my grubby hands on a bank full of goodness.

4. Time to Read/Write

What’s better than curling up under the covers with a good book or plot bunny and a few hours of freedom from every day responsibilities? While I have to work rain, snow, sleet, or holiday, I try to make a point to take a little time to read and write during the holiday season. Last year, I spent some of that time writing All Over You, about a bossy San Francisco detective hot on the trail of the dangerous catfish who might just be the kindergarten teacher he’s falling for. Both of their hearts and their futures are on the line in this sizzling erotic romance.

Book Blitz – Listen To Your Heart by Sydney Logan

Title: Listen to Your Heart
Author: Sydney Logan
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: November 19, 2016

“I don’t want to be a choice you have to make. I want to be your heart’s only option.”Wedding planner Skye Douglas makes a career out of bringing fairytales to life—even if she’s given up on her own happily ever after. Instead of dating, she devotes time to her nephew, a guitar prodigy who shares her love for 80s hair bands. When she encounters Caleb Lynch, the new guitar teacher, everything changes. Caleb’s passion for music—not to mention his Def Leppard T-shirt—makes Skye wonder if she might get her storybook ending after all.

Caleb would do anything for those he loves—including a fake engagement as a gift to his best friend’s dying mother. But after meeting Skye, he regrets the promise he made.

When Skye realizes she’s fallen for the groom, will she listen to her head . . . or her heart?

Caleb stands and offers me his hand.“Dance with me?”

I hate to dance . . . almost as much as I hate to date. But this is, without a doubt, the most romantic thing that’s ever happened to me.

Caleb’s eyes never leave mine as he leads me to the dance floor. Pulling me close, he drifts his hands up my arms and along my shoulders until I’m flush against him. I encircle his waist with my arms as we sway to the music.

Then the most amazing thing happens.

Caleb leans his forehead against mine and starts to sing.

And I melt. Absolutely, positively melt right there in his arms.

Correction. This is the most romantic thing that’s ever happened to me.

Caleb’s deep blue eyes burn with emotion as he sings softly to me. I don’t care that we probably look ridiculous and cheesy. I don’t care that the waitress will most likely slash my tires. I don’t care that he’s singing slightly off key. I don’t even care that my best friend is going to scream bloody murder when I tell her about this moment.

I don’t care about any of it, because I’m here.

With him.

It’s exciting.

It’s terrifying.

Suddenly too overwhelmed with everything, I close my eyes.

“Please look at me,” he whispers, and because I’m completely under his spell, I obey.

“Caleb, I . . .” my voice drifts off.

Everything’s just too intense. It’s too much. And I don’t know what to say.

“You feel it, too?”

The insecure girl in me wants to ask what he means, but the woman in me knows. Of course I feel it, and I have no idea how to answer him. I decide to go with the truth.

“I do.”

15325284_935044613293669_1477430252168645487_oWhen asked to think of our favorite things related to Christmas, our minds immediately turn to family. What is Christmas without family and friends, right?

Like the characters in our books, we both value family more than anything. We also love the food, the decorating, the get-togethers, and of course making memories.

Oh, and Santa.

Who doesn’t love Santa?! 😉

We also love giving. The saying that it’s better to give than receive hits home with us. We both love paying it forward and spreading kindness 365 days a year, but especially during this time of year.

Kindness warms our souls.

If you’re looking for something to warm your soul, we think you should give our books a try!

All three of our books are set in the south. Who doesn’t love a good dose of sunshine and warmth during the winter months? We like to say they’re southern-fried fiction with heart and soul.

You can find them on Amazon and read them for free on Kindle Unlimited!

My Favorite Things Giveaway – Lindsey Gray

Today in the my favorite things giveaway, we hear from Lindsey Gray, Contemporary Romance author of the Nerdy Girl Nation, Holiday Cure for the Cursed, and Not the Same Season!

When it comes to Christmas there are so many things I love. I’d have to say my favorite thing about the holiday is the CHRISTMAS MOVIES! I am a movie junkie the rest of the year, but I can’t get enough of the holiday gems. I thought I’d share some of my favorites with you today.

Mixed Nuts (1994)

I love Steve Martin, but this movie has an all star cast to back him up. This movie centers around a suicide hotline located in a building going condo. Nothing is worse than getting evicted at Christmas, but the lengths these characters go to save their building and themselves is as hilarious as it is inspiring.

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989)

Chevy and Beverly lead another all star cast in this holiday staple. Clark just wants a big family Christmas, just once. But being a Griswold, nothing ever goes as planned. From huge Christmas trees, annoying neighbors, and a lighting display that can be seen from space, you have to fall in love with this dysfunctional family.

White Christmas (1954)

Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye head to Vermont with two sisters and decide to do what they can to help their former military commander bring life back into a Ski Lodge without any snow.

Elf (2003)

Any movie with Santa and his elves is aces in my book. Then this movie came along with the added humor of Will Farrell as Buddy and it is an instant classic! Buddy learns he wasn’t born at the North Pole. His real father lives in New York City so Buddy gathers his wits and travels to meet his dear old dad.

Plus there are hundreds of Hallmark movies that my husband rolls his eyes over. LOL. I try to devour each and every one. They’ve inspired me to write my one holiday tales.

My Favorite Things Giveaway – Sydney Logan

Today in the My Favorite Things Giveaway, we hear from Sydney Logan, author of Listen to Your Heart, Songbird, Once Upon a December, and other sweet romance novels.
A list of my favorite things about the holidays would probably look a lot like yours: spending time with family, singing carols, watching holiday movies, wrapping presents . . .
What’s that? You don’t like to wrap gifts?
Sydney’s Dream Job

I love, love, love to wrap presents! I love it so much that my family members bring me their gifts to wrap. When we travel north to spend the holidays with my husband’s side of the family, his mom saves some gifts, just for me to wrap!
Enablers, every single one of them!
Of course, wrapping has its obstacles. Oddly-shaped gifts, misshapen boxes, and of course, little helpers.
 photo Stopitthatsmybox_zps07883983.gif
Not Sydney’s cat, but totally could be.

So this year, when you’re unwrapping your gifts, think about the person who wrapped them. Think about the love and care this individual took in choosing just the right paper, just the right bow . . . or maybe they just chose the right department store gift wrapper who did all the wrapping for them! Either way, enjoy!
Speaking of enjoy, you might enjoy Sydney’s holiday short story collection, Once Upon a December. This book includes three holiday short stories that are sure to warm your heart this winter. And, it’s just .99¢, which really makes it the perfect gift!

Here’s the giveaway! Good luck!

My Favorite Things Giveaway – Carrie Elks

Today in the My Favorite Things Giveaway, we hear from Carrie Elks, Contemporary Romance author of Fix You and The Love in London Series!

Welcome and Happy Holidays.

The authors of Enchanted Publications have come together for a fun and festive holiday giveaway. Each day, one Enchanted author will be sharing her favorite thing about the holidays. Read the post, find the author’s “favorite thing” and enter it in the Rafflecopter for a chance to win a $50 Amazon gift card PLUS a virtual stocking full of eBooks – one from each participating author!

I love December. I love the festive feeling, I love the music, the food, the day itself. In fact there’s very little I don’t like about this time of year. So trying to narrow down my favorite things to one post is like Santa stuffing toys into his sleigh for every single girl and boy. Almost impossible, and yet I’m going to try to do it.

*Drumroll* My favorite thing about the holidays is FAMILY!

Okay, so let’s start at the beginning. Or what for me was the beginning of a brand new adventure. December 20th 1999 when my first daughter was born. Her arrival was like the best ever early Christmas present for me and my husband. We felt very blessed to have a healthy, happy, and heavy (9 lbs – ouch!) baby, who was easy to take care of.

Then, two years later, we were joined by her brother. Though he wasn’t born at Christmas (he’s an Easter baby, I seem to have theme going here), nonetheless he threw himself into the festive feeling just as soon as he realised it would mean getting gifts, meeting santa, and of course being able to stuff his face with cookies.

Over the years we’ve built some wonderful family traditions together. We decorate the tree on the first weekend of December (all wearing our festive Santa hats, of course), and Christmas music is blasting through the house from the first of the month. By the time Christmas Eve comes, we’re all ready for the new set of pyjamas every member of the house gets. Even our pug, Plato, gets in the Christmas spirit, wearing his festive sweater with pride!

Over the season, we each get to pick a favorite movie to watch. I’m always torn between the classical It’s a Wonderful Life, and the dark humor of Scrooged. Hopefully this year we’ll get to watch both. There’s something magical about snuggling under our blankets, and stuffing our faces with freshly-popped corn, while we sit and watch the big screen. It’s one of the best parts of Christmas for me.

This year, Christmas will be all the more magical because last year was a pretty tough holiday for us. We’d had a bad year, topped off by my daughter having a major operation (spinal fusion) in mid-December. By the time Christmas came around she was only just out of hospital and able to walk. Still, we made the most of it by watching lots of box sets on the TV, and having family around to visit. And it will make this year all the more special, knowing we came through it and have made it to the other side. I’m going to feel a little warmer surrounded by my family, this holiday season.

If you’re looking for something fun to read during the holiday season I have a fabulous book set over the New Year. Fix You tells the story of Richard and Hanna, a wealthy New Yorker and a sassy Londoner, whose eyes meet over a New Year’s Eve party, setting them on a roller coaster of love neither of them expect.

My Favorite Things Giveaway – Jennifer Locklear

Today in the My Favorite Things giveaway, we hear from Jennifer Locklear, Contemporary Romance author of Constellation!
Even before it was ever a thing, my family always made a point of watching “A Christmas Story” on TV.
I first saw the movie in 1985. My mother and I had just moved to Oregon a few months before and I was trying to adapt to a new life. She introduced me to the movie and we watched it together at home. She wanted me to see it because the premise reminded her quite a bit of her own childhood, but what we discovered was so much more than a walk down Memory Lane. We both laughed so much and it really helped make that first Christmas in our new surroundings a happy and memorable one.
We continued to watch “A Christmas Story” each December and it became a timeless classic for us even before the rest of world caught on. It’s a film I never tire of and it has become a holiday tradition for our family in a big way. When TBS began broadcasting 24 hours of “A Christmas Story” years ago, our family made a commitment to go all in. Each and every year, from 5 PM on Christmas Eve until 5 PM on Christmas night, it is the only thing allowed on all the television sets in our house. The TV’s even stay on all through the night, and inevitably one of us wakes up at 3 or 4 AM to catch a few scenes. Just because we can. You’d think we’d get tired of it after years and years and years of watching, but nope.
Each year, we seem to hone in on several different one liners from the film. Once a line has been singled out we play a game of trying to catch the line during as many screenings as possible. It’s not at all uncommon for one (or all of us) to randomly shout out things like …
“I’m not color blind either.”
“I triple dog dare you!”
“You’ll shoot your eye out kid!”
“It’s a clinker!”
“Shoot! I didn’t know dat. I thought it was a lamp!”
“Be sure to drink your Ovaltine.”
“I like the Tin Man.”
This nostalgic and quirky movie suits our fun-loving family well. It gives us a chance to laugh together and it helps our family bridge one holiday season to another. There is never any suggestion of changing this Locklear family tradition, and after 30 years I doubt we ever could let a year go by without watching “A Christmas Story”.
After all, it just wouldn’t be a proper holiday without electric sex gleaming in the window!
